PEDAGOGICAL AESTHETICS

Education, Institutional Critique, and Strategic Deskilling

By examining diverse ‘educational turns’ within the art world, this platform elaborates on the interplay between museum pedagogies, institutional critique, and the social value of concepts such as creativity, artistic skills and collective knowledge. The project started in 2009 hand in hand with a workshop gave by Irit Rogoff both at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona and the University of Barcelona. The workshop focused on the educational turn of contemporary art museums on the one hand and on the analysis of the multiple ways in which diverse audiences and agents are implicated in the pedagogical transformation of museums on the other. With the idea of expanding the reseach, in 2010 the Intermittent University established a semi-permanent collaboration with the Fine Arts program of HEART (Haute Ecole d’Art de la Ville de Perpignan-France) ›››

In 2009, the Intermittent University oraganized a brainstorming seminar taught by Irit Rogoff (Professor of Visual Cultures / Goldsmiths, University of London). Taking the so-called ‘educational turns’ as starting point, in these activities Professor Rogoff debated the participatory role of emergent publics within the museum and debated the way in which cognitive capitalism has challenged critical theory on the one hand and the rebilding of academic knowledge on the other.
