READING EDOUARD GLISSANT
Politics of the Diverse and the Global Art World
ABOUT THIS ONLINE COURSE
Welcome to our first e-FORUM. We decided to start this project with Édouard Glissant, the remarkable decolonial poet/philosopher whose Global-South thinking gave different meanings to concepts such as totality, difference, relation, cosmopolitanism, créolité, or world. The goal of this online course is to read his work with the idea of assessing the validity of the expression global art world, that is, to call into question the controversial presumption about the elimination of the dividing line between Western and Non-Western art. In addition, this course will discuss the way in which Édouard Glissant has been included as a Caribbean philosopher within curatorial pro-globalist exhibitions such as documenta11, the Paris Triennale (2012), or The Global Contemporary (ZKM-Karlsruhe). This course consists of three online sessions and one paper prospectus revision period. After completion, participants will obtain a GVC Certificate.
“But, just as in our chaos-world one cannot save any one language by letting the others perish, so it is for the translator who cannot establish a relation between two singular systems, between two individual languages, except in the presence of all the other ones, powerful in his imagination, even if he doesn’t know any of them”.

e-forum explores the work of outstanding writers from the Global-South. This forum focuses on the so-called 'counter-visualities', that is, the relation between modernity, coloniality, and visual culture. This online reading forum operates as a non-MOC, a Non-Massive Online Course. Our e-Forums are free and open to the public.
