Global Studies and Contemporary Art is an open acces journal that promotes critical reflection and extra-disciplinary approaches to the study of contemporary art as a global-scale phenomenon. By expanding the critical tools offered by global/globality studies, this journal aims to explore new methodologies for studying the transnational condition of contemporary art and for analyzing the geographic and symbolic displacement of its institutions.

AIMS AND SCOPE

Journal of Global Studies and Contemporary Art examines the interplays between different cultural/economic globalization theories, questions the ‘postcolonial aura’ of production, exhibition and worldwide circulation of art, and elaborates on the ‘long term’ systemic order of the modern/colonial art world.

Journal of Global Studies and Contemporary Art welcomes essays, reviews and interviews which promote innovative and cross-cultural approaches for studying migratory aesthetics, diaspora aesthetics, inter/transcultural aesthetics, postcolonial and decolonial aesthetics, contemporary art global system, transnational art institutions, global visual cultures, new internationalism, biennials, world exhibitions, and world art studies among other global-scale contemporary art issues.

Journal of Global Studies and Contemporary Art is a multi-lingual journal. However, it privileges contributions in English and in Spanish.

Journal of Global Studies and Contemporary Art is an online independent journal affiliated with the University of Barcelona, which publishes two issues a year. Journal of Global Studies and Contemporary Art is ISSN-registered (ISSN 2013-8652).

Editorial decisions are made by the editors-in-chief. Submitted articles will be evaluated by the editors. In the sole discretion of the editors, external reviewers will be used for those articles submitted in a variety of languages as well as for contributions addressing some specific fields of expertise.
